SYNOPSIS

ANNIE & MARY: Reflections on the Railroad celebrates the golden era of steam engines by exploring various sentiments and perceptions held in relation to the railroad.
ANNIE & MARY was filmed in Humboldt County, California and at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, and includes 1940’s archival film footage of steam engines in the redwoods. This documentary features interviews with museum operators, engineers, artists, historians, and model train enthusiasts.

In Annie & Mary you meet – or rather hear the voices of – several of the folks who are members of what has now become the Timber Heritage Association. They’ve come a long way in the last six years of turning their dream of having a museum that would, amongst other aspects, preserve and run the historic steam trains of the area. It seems to all be happening for them now, and what with Obama and global warming, I’m wondering if we may see a re-birth of train travel in the near future….
