Director’s Note
We make up rules for every film, and the film needs only be true to the rules of the world it abides in. This film began with the exploration of the theme (which I think is something like: Are anybody’s problems greater than another’s? Or is it just relative to the experience we know?) and of three distinct visual styles. These were the rules I created as I developed the film:
1. Three vignettes, each consisting of 3 scenes (morning, noon, and night)
2. These vignettes take place in the same day, in the same city
3. The same actress plays all three women
4. The three women represent the top, middle, and bottom classes of society
5. The three vignettes will be intercut with each other.
6. Each woman has a struggle or a loss in this day.
7. Each vignette has a distinct visual style: Top Woman (Mistress L.)- film noir in black and white. Middle Woman (Marie)- stale, fluorescent. Bottom Woman (Zahra)- natural, earthy.
