Will she still be your friend? Now that she’s MADE IT?
And YOU are still NOBODY…
•
And not only that- you are messed-up.
Messed-up, washed-up…you’ve hit the bottom.
And you need HELP.
•
But she did used to be your BEST FRIEND.
And so you make the call.
Director’s Note:
Female Leading characters will most likely continue to be one of the attributes to the films I make, as it’s what I long for, as a viewer, to see more of in cinema. The story for Whole Pieces is inspired by a Tori Amos song called “Amber Waves” (which incidentally that name is taken from the Boogie Nights character played by Julianne Moore). When Tori Amos has discussed this song, she mentioned that it was about a friend of hers, who had fallen into porn and was losing her soul. She says at one point (paraphrase): There are people who, they don’t call often, and they don’t ask for much, but when they do- you go. This, and my preoccupation with class divides, prompted me to become fascinated with the idea of friendship as a bridge, and to what point is friendship strong enough to overcome the divides of class, money, success, and identity that happen to us as we go through life?
